The Rivers Trust: River Revival

Rivers shape our landscapes and provide the foundations of our cities, towns and countryside. When they thrive, so do we.

This summer The Rivers Trust want everybody to remember just how special rivers are. We all know they are an important water resource, and that we couldn’t survive without them. They are also home to some of the UK and Ireland’s most iconic species, and give us natural space to relax and unwind.

It’s true that our rivers are in a dire state, despite the fact that the Rivers Trust movement is working hard to change that. We shouldn’t lose sight of why we want to protect rivers: not just for our survival, but also our revival.

The River Revival is intended to remind people just how special our rivers are, and encourage everyone to join us in cherishing them.

How you can get involved

Take 5 Challenge

Take 5: take five minutes to spend time by the river, whether that’s in person or virtually

Give £5: donate £5 to The Rivers Trust or your local Rivers Trust, helping to support grassroots conservation

Tag 5: Friends and family members online to pass on the message

Fundraising

Fundraising is a great way to raise money for river conservation while having fun at the same time. Maybe you’ll take up the challenge to swim a new distance in the open water, or organise a canoe and kayak relay with friends and family. Perhaps you’ll cycle along your favourite river from source to sea… whatever you end up doing, the Rivers Trust will be grateful of any donations.

Connect with your local Rivers Trust

Did you know there are over 60 local Rivers Trusts across the UK and Ireland? Lots of them have a variety of volunteer events planned for this summer. Get involved with your local Trust and make a real difference to rivers nearby.

The Rivers Trust are conservation experts with a wealth of data and expertise at their fingertips. They work with member Trusts to make their shared vision a reality: wild, healthy, natural rivers, valued by all.

They bring together the people, knowledge, data and intelligence to help rivers thrive again; for us and future generations.
